Sticky notes can have different functions in PI Planning. Therefore, in piplanning.io they have properties corresponding to the function. This makes the collaborative work during PI Planning even more efficient. From now on, sticky notes with a work item function can also indicate the status of the task, which can be: to do, in progress or done.
piplanning.io has 4 sticky functions. Note, Work Item, Dependency and Risk. Sticky functions are defined in the RTE Cockpit and give the facilitator the ability to enable teams the functions on sticky notes they need for effective planning or PI execution. In this video we will cover all four.
Let's start with the Note. Note is the simplest. It is simply a sticky note with no additional functions. Clearly stickers can be applied. But otherwise it is just a note. Next, there is the work item.
The work item is very simple to understand. A work item has an estimation field (on the program backlog board this is the WSJF field, on the team boards it is the story point value). And secondly the work item has a status either todo, in progress or done. This can easily be set via the upper right corner of the sticky notes.
The next sticky function is the dependency. We use the dependency sticky to trigger the conversation with another team and to keep our program board clear. It has the ability to be mirrored to another team board. A red flag is automatically attached to the dependency. After all, it is not yet resolved. In addition, we can always see transparently on the dependency itself which team originally created it and to which team it was sent.
And last but not least there is the sticky function risk. The risk has a ROAM button where the work item has its estimation field. With this button you can easily set a label for Resolved, Owned, Accepted or Mitigated. In addition, the risk sticky can be mirrored on the program risk board. And that's all you need to know about the sticky functions.
