In this lesson, I'm talking about participating a Remote PI Planning in the shoes of a Business Owner. You have the honour to kick-off the PI Planning with the Business Context. As in every workshop, training or event, an ice breaking start is crucial. It's your responsibility to bring in energy and drive for the upcoming two days. Keep your presentation short and clear. After 30 minutes you should have boiled your statements down. Otherwise your audience gets bored and the energy is gone. Your presentation must be prepared and aligned with what Product Management will present afterwards. Do a dry run together, film yourself, and give feedback to each other.
Emphasize the Big Picture. Shortly reflect what the teams already achieved followed by talking how the upcoming Features fit into the overall strategic plan for the Product or Service.
During the breakout sessions, be the problem-solver and decision maker teams want you to be. The Program Board acts as single source of truth. If you have clearly defined working agreements where everybody is allowed to raise impediments, issues and risks on the digital boards, you'll be able to act and contribute in the planning. Don't wait till the teams present their plans in the Draft and Final Plan Review. Upcoming issues can often be solved straight away.
For now, that's it about participate a Remote Planning in the shoes of... whatever role you are in (show clothes). I hope I could bring in some new ideas and inspiration for your next Remote PI Plannings. Feel free to comment, share, ask questions and mention topics which you would like to have covered in a next lesson. Take care and hope to hearing from you soon!
We will take a look at all the well-known roles - RTE, Scrum Master, Team Member, Product Management, System Architect, Product Owner and Business Owner - in PI Planning and see how they can best prepare to make remote PI Planning successful.
